HTLC NEWS June 2008 The mission of
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is
to live, learn, A WORD FROM THE PASTOR Well, I’m here. You know, it’s really quite interesting to look at all the things that had to happen to bring us together for this next leg of our spiritual journey that we will now be traveling together. However, if you look at everything closely it’s easy to see God’s hand in all of this. Sure it’s hard to believe that waiting 3 years would be something God would do or that an illness and loss of a job would be parts of His plan. But God clearly tells us in His Word that His ways are not our ways and His time is not our time and that the world sees what God does as pure foolishness. We believers also know that God doesn’t make mistakes and His plans are always perfect. Therefore, we can move ahead confidently knowing that He will guide us and direct us in each and every step we take. I’m reminded of the text in Jeremiah 29:11 that states: “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Yes He has plans for us that are full of hope and a future filled with joy. Not just when we are with Him in heaven, but right now. He has truly blessed me with each and every one of you and I pray that I will be a blessing to all of you. I am looking forward to seeing just how God will lead us to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ in love to each other and most importantly to those around us who do not yet know of His great love and promise of salvation. He has already prepared these people for us and He will lead us to them at exactly the right time and in exactly the right place. Energized and directed by His Holy Spirit we do indeed have a joyful future full of hope and promise. God bless each and every one of you as we go forth in His name to do His will and to accomplish what He has already planned for us. Because of Christ, Pastor Roger Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humamity Saturday, June 21, 2008 we will again be serving lunch for the workers in Leslie for Habitat for Humanity. We have a great team of Camp Leaders this year. Laura Bruns is the Lead Teacher along with Lindsay Hammer as an Assistant Teacher. They have many fun activities planned. They will be doing science experiments, tye-dying T-shirts, discovering dinosaur fossils and lots of other exciting things. We also have the ice cream truck coming every Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. For just $2.00 per child they can purchase a frosty treat to enjoy. The cost for camp is $40.00 activity/transportation fee. This covers the cost of materials, bus rental for field trips, and a camp T-shirt. Weekly cost is $87.50 for the child to attend. The Center provides breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack. If you know of anyone who would like to spend the summer having a blast, please contact Tina Feddersen, Tricia Rego, or Mary Reger at 636-629-6337 and we will be more than happy to get them signed up for a FUN Summer Camp experience. Ablaze! In the book of Matthew, Jesus said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (Matthew 9: 37—38) As you will recall, last month we learned from Acts 1:8 about being witnesses in “Jerusalem” and sharing the Gospel with people who are nearby and like us—with friends, relatives and neighbors. This month we will cover the second category of people to whom we are to witness. Judea: Like the early church, we are also to share the Gospel with the people of Judea—people who are close to us in culture, although they live farther away. Consider making a list of people you want to pray for and share the Good News of Jesus. The April-June issue of Portals of Prayer has a prayer “For the Spread of the Gospel” on page 109. Pray for Us Calendar: The June "Pray for Us" Calendar was enclosed in the printed version of the Newsletter. Iis numbered for every day of the month. Make it a new family tradition! Missionary Family: The Sunday June 1 bulletin featured an insert on the Rev. Glenn and Susan Fluegge family. Check out the HTLC web site at www.htlcstclair.com. If you click on Missionaries, you will see pictures of three missionary families. Click on the Fluegges and you will see information about their service in Togo. Volunteer service projects as a witness to the community: Join us Saturday, June 21, for building the Habitat houses in Leslie, Mo. The day starts with prayer at 8:30 a.m. at the job site. Also, lunch will be served by HTLC to about 50 workers. Meet at church at 7:30 a.m. or, if you prefer, drive directly to the site. You are encouraged to also help on other workdays—see list on bulletin board. For info, call Glen Stellhorn at 629-4120. Saturday, June 28 Fireworks – Holy Trinity Child Care and
